Friday, November 1, 1996 is the Second Annual All RATs
Day, and this year the RATs are joined by the CATs. Runners Against Trash, and
just plain Citizens Against Trash, all over North America are piped to participate.
The day after Halloween is a goldmine for RATs and CATs
because the wrappers, bags, paper, shaving cream cans and orange stuff from a
long night of tricks, treats and plunder are all fresh, bright and easily grabbable.
On All RATs & CATs Day anywhere, get there early, and take a RAT- or CATbag.
Wherever you are November 1, do the RAT thing. Pick up
some Halloween trash. Pick up some every day trash. Pick up a bag full. Take a
friend. Take a pack on a RAT Run, or a pride on a CAT Walk. If we each pitch in
and each pitch a bag in a bin, we can have the whole place clean for All the Saints,
whose day it really is.
The RATs and CATs say be sober and have fun. Don't do
anything unless it's safe and certainly don't run into traffic to get a priceless
piece of litter. Be courteous, be wise and wash your hands. If you have them,
wear your RAT- or CATgloves. Stay clear of toxic waste sites. As in past years,
you can still join for free, and still keep everything you can carry.
